Game news:Playing Gods

From Atharia
Jump to navigation Jump to search

On Atharia we are willing to allow players to play one of the games Gods. However, there will be some conditions to being able to play them. On an IC level the Gods are the ultimate powers on Atharia. No mortal can even come close to doing what they can, even when they have very strong magical powers. We’re not going to really restrict what you can do IC as a God. Staff is likely to use the player-Gods as ways to seed out plots. Just keep in mind that Gods that players control are not as powerful as the ones staff control, they are considered minor Gods. This is done in the interest of keeping players feeling safe if we need to. Staff will not ascend a Child that idles out or leaves the game. If they have a plot hook that is important to the story (some do) we will take what would be the best method to let that angle finish. This can be anything we feel fits the story.

The conditions are:

  1. You can not apply to play a character that is already a God. You need to start as a mortal that is a Child of Gods. You can nudge Minerva/staff about becoming a Child of Gods even if you already have a character that isn’t a Child of Gods and you want to make the character one. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the Children of Gods news file.
  2. Once the mortal has ascended to Godhood all scenes done are expected to be posted. The exception is the more intimate ones, as in logs involving sex. Staff doesn’t necessarily care if you post ‘God sex scenes’ but the need to be titled clearly so that people know not to click on that specific log when not in a situation where it is okay to read it (around children, in public, at work, etc). This allows staff to get an idea of what the player-God is doing.
  3. Anything that could affect the game requires alerting staff before it happens. Giving a favored mortal a little something (trinkets, a special animal, a known mythical creature, etc) or just social scenes do not need to be. The God getting a mortal with child, altering a space, destroying something, killing someone and other more major things like that needs to have staff alerted.
  4. You can not horde the plot. Playing a God is a kin to being a quest giver. If staff seeds you with some sort of plot you are to try and pass it to a player. From an IC standpoint, the Gods don’t /need/ to be out adventuring and doing tasks and such. Sure, they might go along on an adventure for the fun of it but ultimately they are there to make mortals do the ‘mortal’ things while they watch and meddle. So, Larthin might go with Mortal A, Mortal B, and Mortal C but he’s most likely to be ‘Oh! Look at that dog that I want you to capture getting away’ then proceed to do nothing. A Player-God is like the NPCs in games that have information and you need to do a thing to get further info/your reward. When they go with mortals on a quest/adventure they are those annoying NPCs that move super slow or do things that make you go ‘wtf?!’
  5. Player-Controlled Gods can not be a patron God of a kingdom, Atharia will only have 8 kingdoms. However, they can be patron Gods of families, towns/cities/villages, and individual characters. All player-Gods will be under one of the Major Gods (staff-run Gods). So, Player-God A could be Larthin’s Child but for reasons identifies most with Soleil so they opt to be under Soleil’s purview. All Gods, especially the one God the Minor God is under or their parental God, should it be needed, definitely have the ability to lock the power of the Minor God or turn them back to being mortal. Doing anything like that would be an IC last resort.
